I’d Rather Be Dancing was created by Meg Broome in collaboration with movement artist Micky Esteban and sound architect Brian Mason — three artists brought together by a shared attraction to emotional honesty, theatrical risk, and the strange humor that tends to appear in the middle of heartbreak.

Meg’s work moves between dance, writing, theater making, wellness spaces, and building communities centered around movement and emotional truth. She is interested in performance that feels lived in rather than polished — work that allows contradiction to exist openly: grief beside comedy, beauty beside collapse, devotion beside complete emotional chaos.

Micky comes from the world of immersive and contemporary performance, with experience spanning companies, freelance projects, and physically driven theatrical work including Sleep No More. Her movement language blends precision with raw humanity, creating performances that feel cinematic, intimate, and deeply alive all at once.

Brian Mason’s sound work acts as the nervous system of the piece itself. Through original scoring, layered sonic textures, recorded text, and emotional distortion, the soundscape blurs the line between memory, fantasy, performance, and reality — turning the world of the piece into something immersive enough to almost physically step inside.

Together, the collaboration began through long conversations, improvisation, voice memos, emotional spirals, movement experiments, and an increasing inability to tell where real life ended and the piece began. What emerged was I’d Rather Be Dancing: a dance theater work that feels both deeply theatrical and painfully recognizable.
